Faculty & Staff

Principal - B. Gonski

Ms. Gonski has served as principal of St. John for the past 6 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Valparaiso University in Indiana, and her Masters of Education from the University of New Orleans. Ms. Gonski has a wide range of teaching experience in both Lutheran and public schools and is proud to be a native New Orleanian.

Teachers:

Preschool / Pre-Kindergarten  - J. Bedard

Mrs. Bedard is in her fourth year of teaching at St. John. She has taught preschool , music, and religion at Lutheran Schools and churches in five states! Her Bachelor of Arts Degree is from Concordia University in Oregon with a double major in Christian Education and Church Music. She has earned her CDA (Child Development Associate) credential. In her spare time, Mrs. Bedard enjoys playing organ, reading, and scrap booking.

Preschool / Pre-Kindergarten  - J. Hicks

Mrs. Hicks has been a teacher at St. John for two years and loves it! She graduated from Concordia University Mequon, which is located in the "Cheese State." Although born and raised as an Indiana Hoosier and Cult, she is quickly becoming a huge fan of the New Orleans Saints! With a cup of coffee in hand, Mrs. Hicks greets each day excited to teach children about Christ's love!

Kindergarten - P. Wood

Ms. Wood attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Early Childhood. She has been teaching for over 30 years and has loved teaching kindergarten for the last 10 years. Ms. Wood has two children, and a new  grandson!

 

First Grade - M. Brown

Mrs. Brown is a 2010 graduate from Concordia University in Texas. She received  a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Brown and her husband are new to the New Orleans area, and are loving it!  This is Mrs. Brown's second year at St. John. 

Second Grade - T. Simoneaux

Mrs. Simoneaux has been teaching for eight years.  She earned her teaching degree at Concordia University in Texas.  She has three young children and her husband is a Lutheran minister.

Third Grade - E. Harkey

Ms. Harkey graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in Elementary Education.  This is her first year teaching at St. John but has a long history with our school.  She attended elementary school here at St. John as a student for several years while her family lived in the area and her dad served as a local minister. 

Fourth / Fifth  Grades - S. Stohs

Mrs. Stohs is beginning her fourth year of teaching, and her third year at St. John. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Concordia University, Nebraska. Mrs. Stohs is an avid reader and world traveler.

 

Sixth Grade - J. Henschen

Mr. Henschen is beginning his second year at St. John.  After graduating from Concordia University, Nebraska. Mr. Henschen obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Level Education.  Prior to that he completed his student-teaching in Shanghai, China!  This past summer, he volunteered on a Native American reservation in North Dakota teaching Vacation Bible School.  Mr. Henschen has always enjoyed working with children, and is thrilled to be teaching 6th grade at St. John!
