General Information School Hours School officially begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Students are allowed in the classroom beginning at 8:15 a.m. and afternoon pick-up ends at 3:15 p.m. Extended care is provided for a fee. Morning care begins at 7:00 a.m. and afternoon care ends at 6:00 p.m. Computer Lab St. John has a computer lab with 20 student computers. The lab is used for both computer instruction and classroom activities. Library All students have library time once a week. Chapel Services School chapel services are held each Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. This is a special worship experience for our students and teachers. The weekly offering supports various ministries and organizations. Lunch Program Hot lunch is available daily. Lunches are purchased from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This is a federally subsidized program with free and reduced prices available to those who qualify. School Calendar A school calendar is published each spring for the following school year. The school year traditionally begins in the middle of August. The calendar may be viewed on our website. Age Requirements Students entering kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 30th and those entering our pre-k four program must turn four years of age on or before September 30th. Students must be three years old before entering our pre-k three program. All preschoolers must be toilet trained. Academic Records The application process for students entering first grade and above includes our receipt of academic records from previous schools. Copies of report cards and standardized test results must be faxed or mailed to us by the previous school. Interview/Testing All applicants must participate in an interview session administered by St. John personnel. Students entering grade one or higher will also be tested for appropriate placement. St. John Handbook A handbook is distributed to all school families on an annual basis at the Parent Orientation held in August. Each family is expected to acknowledge receipt of the handbook and to support the expectations and guidelines set forth in the handbook. A copy of this handbook may be found on our website. School Dress Guidelines St. John has a mandatory school uniform and dress code. Uniforms may be purchased at School Time Uniforms. Immunizations The State of Louisiana requires that all students must be properly immunized prior to the start of the school year. Schools are required to suspend any student who is not in full compliance with the State standards by the end of the first month of school. |
