Thank you for your interest in St. John Lutheran School. For over 150 years, St. John has served the New Orleans community with a commitment to quality Christian education. St. John's philosophy emphasizes the importance of providing a nurturing atmosphere and a supportive environment, which builds high level thinking skills, excellent work habits and a love for learning. We strive to instill a strong sense of self-esteem and Christian responsibility in all of our students. Our low student/teacher ratio, safe campus, high-core curriculum and caring, qualified Christian teachers enable us to enact our philosophy on a daily basis. In addition, the Gospel message of God's love is conveyed to each child in attendance at our school. We care about the whole child: mind, body and soul. Grow With Us St. John is offering classes for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for the 2010-2011 school year. We will continue to add at least one grade each year until we have added a seventh grade and are once again a complete elementary school. Children enrolled for the fall may continue at St. John until they have completed their entire elementary education. This rebirthing process was necessary due to Katrina. It is our hope, however, that out of this disaster, an even stronger and better school will emerge. The Lutheran School System The elementary schools of the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod date back to the decade between 1830 and 1840, when a number of Lutheran congregations were organized in Midwestern states and established Christian Day Schools for their children. St. John is one of the 2,200 Lutheran elementary schools and preschools in the United States. We are part of the Southern District of the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod. There are presently 18 schools in the District offering Christian education in preschool/kindergarten and elementary grades.
